A class that anyone can enjoy,
regardless of their artistic sensibility
At Sydney porcelain art club, I use the small class system, drawing on my experiences of production and instruction at Tokyo Harajuku Togasha. My aim is to ensure that students have fun while mastering the techniques that I teach. “Isn’t it difficult if I don’t have any artistic sensibility?” I hear this question a lot, but this really isn’t a barrier. Once you learn the right technique, you can really enjoy the act of creating. While it’s not something you can learn in a short time, if you are interested in taking up a seriously satisfying adult hobby, I definitely recommend porcelain painting. |
About porcelain painting
Porcelain painting, which is also called ‘overglaze painting’ or ‘china painting’, is known throughout the world as a genteel and highbrow hobby. In the past, these techniques were used only for the finest tableware used by European royalty and nobility. Today, anyone can learn these techniques and enjoy painting any pictures they like on white plain porcelain. After painting, the art works are finished in an electric kiln (at around 800 degrees). They can then be displayed, put to use in your home, or presented as gifts to your close friends. |
Various ways of enjoying
I can teach you the right technique for whichever style of painted porcelain that you are interested in – whether European, American, or your own original design. Using white porcelain as your blank canvas, you can tackle the sought-after designs of the major European kilns, or your favourite flowers or scenes of nature. |
